It has sure been a wild ride for so many of us lately, in so many different ways. I can feel a collective weariness that seeps into just about everything we do. Well, maybe I should just speak for myself – I have been tired. It has been a long road. And as the light at the end of the tunnel dims in this pandemic, while so many other problems are piling on top, it is a little disheartening to say the least.
But I have always been one to rally. I don’t give up easily. As an artist friend said, we artists that are ‘still standing’ have learned to persevere. We have honed that skill and so I hope we can all rally and bring our Art to the forefront, where we can inspire and motivate when it is really needed – NOW!
Butterflies in watercolor - more about them in a future post...
So I will be sharing some of my plein air work, paintings, adventures, recent ramblings on nature and other photos from my experiences here in Montana at the edge of Yellowstone National Park. It is a wild, amazingly beautiful place that I share with many creatures great and small. An inspiring way for an artist to live and that inspiration will hopefully grow when shared. I’m counting on that.

The word is already out, that fall is near. Our swallows that entertain us through the summer with their acrobatic maneuvers have headed south. The air is quieter now. They are off searching out warmer climates, somehow knowing that the snow will cover the peaks here soon. Osprey seem to be ‘getting antsy’ and Sandhill Cranes are beginning to gather together. A big bull elk is now claiming his territory in Mammoth. All is as it should be. Signs that summer is waning and I will be painting fall colors before I know it.
I appreciate transitions – seasons are markers for me. I’m particularly looking forward to this autumn transition, to paint the colors and soak in the natural world at a slower pace.... a... much... slower...pace.
It has sure been one hectic year plus some! To see a little of what we’ve been up to, take a look at our newest addition to our lodging properties now up on our website lodging pages.
A major remodel we completed on the home, as always - ourselves ;-)... Phew!...
A view out the windows into Yellowstone from our newest property on the banks of the Yellowstone River.
Yes, so pleased with how it turned out! Such a wonderful property, we decided to 'take it over the top'. A great home re-design, exciting, creative, artistically challenging, all those things I enjoy – and a lot of work.
As the project finishes up, I can focus my undivided attention - if there is such a thing for a mother of teenagers - on my 'other Art'. Come along and see the world that I see… I hope it will be a beautiful and inspiring moment in your day – or at least a good diversion when needed.
Hang in there. We are all in this together, and as we all contribute the best we can, we will find our way forward...
(And in the meantime, if you need a break and want to get away to Yellowstone to re-charge, I know of a great 3 bedroom 3 bath home you can rent.)
